This is a small, personal site. It collects what I have gathered about the eguzkilore — the dried head of Carlina acaulis, the sun-flower of Basque folklore — over walks through the mountains and over conversations with the people who still hang it over their doors.
What the site is
Three things, kept simple:
- Notes on the plant — the botany, the habitat, the practical care of it.
- The legends — the stories the flower carries, told as they are told in the country.
- Photographs — from the field, starting with a bloom found on the slopes of Entzia.
How it's made
The site is built by hand in plain HTML and CSS — no frameworks, no scripts, no trackers, no cookies. It loads quietly and stays out of the way, the way a field notebook should. Every image is a photograph or a drawing I made; none of them are gathered specimens.
A note on the plant
The eguzkilore is legally protected in much of its range. Uprooting or picking it is prohibited. The folklore that made it famous also made it scarce near the roads. If you find one on a walk, the kindest thing is to photograph it and leave it where the sun can watch the door.
